So I finished reading Girl in Hyacinth Blue today and went to the page by the artist who painted the titular Vermeer for the terrible Hallmark Hall of Fame movie with Glenn Close pretending to be an eccentric German woman and failing, which is even weirder considering that her character was male in the book.

Wherein I found this.

The idea of a mulletized emo doofus in a gimme cap done in the style of Vermeer cracks me up.

Also, I like Vermeer, but he makes my eyes water. I couldn't have a print of Girl with a Pearl Earring in the house because I'd bump into things. Besides, when they speak of Dutch Masters I think of three things, in this order:

--blunts
--Piet Mondrian
--Jan van Eyck (I always dug this one, ever since David Spofford in 10th grade said "hey, it's Tom Petty!" and I almost wet my pants laughing. Besides, look at those folds! That mirror! That chandelier!)

Then again, I never understood the big deal about Velasquez, either. *cue [livejournal.com profile] puckgoodfellow to comment about The Prado* "Yo, Cuz! Don't be dissin' the PRADO!"
