Soooo remember last year when J. swore up and down he wouldn't be volunteering at I-Con again?

*dun dun DUN*

Yeah.

Well, at least it's not transportation this time. This year he's doing AV. He's already said that if anyone screams at him the way Ronald D. Moore did at [livejournal.com profile] yugari then he's going to tell them to fucough. Except if its Voltaire, because we like Voltaire, and if he has reason to yell at J. then J. obviously made a big boo boo.

Due to [livejournal.com profile] weev's Unfortunate Incarceration [/Designing Women] I will not be attempting to organize a Lulz Track. While I had other Exciting Guest Speakers in mind, it all hinged on [livejournal.com profile] weev, who through no fault of his own is unable to provide his scintillating presence and inflammatory rhetoric to the slack-jawed furries and EGLs. Damn The Man, because I had such plans for mayhem. MAYHEM. PRANS FOR MAYHEM.

PRANS!

Vegetarian Cock-A-Leekie

4 large leeks
5 cups water
1 vegetarian chicken bouillon cube -- I like Knorr's
1 tablespoon dried dill weed
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 garlic cloves
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
3 celery stalks
3 large white "stuffing" mushrooms
2 cups vegetarian chicken pieces -- I like Trader Joe's chickenless strips
1 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup instant brown rice
Prunes!

Chop leeks and wash well in a colander because they always have mud and crud between the leaves.
Slice celery into butterflies, chop mushrooms, mince garlic, and combine with leeks, water, broth cube, and spices in a stock pot. Bring to a boil and simmer for about 10-15 min or until leeks and celery are soft. in the mean time dice up the "chicken". Add "chicken" and rice, simmer until rice is cooked, about 5-10 min. Mix corn starch with cream and add to soup, stirring well. Return to simmer and then serve with diced prunes for garnish. YOU MUST HAVE PRUNES FOR YOUR COCK-A-LEEKIE.

Eat and talk with a brogue.

J.: Whats up?
Me: I need your permission to do something.
J.: What, you wanna buy something big?
Me: No...
J.: What?
Me: [all in one breath] Those goddamned binary linux mittens are driving me crazy and every time I try to fix the pattern the counting just gets even more fucked up and I am so frustrated and I wanted to have at least one finished for your birthday Sunday and I feel really bad about this but I--
J.: You wanna rip it out and throw it away?
Me: Yes! No! I mean, I will finish them at some point, but I am about to tear my hair out and WAHHHHHHH
J.: Do whatever you want, hon.
Me: WAHHHHHH!!!!!!
J.: You silly. Use the yarn for something else.
Me: WAHHHHH!!!!!!!! You so nice to me!

Seriously, it's such a friggin' wonky pattern. So many long floats in the back and at this point I am ready to just knit them plain black and then duplicate-stitch the motifs on with the spring green he chose (so it looks like an old monitor, lol). In the meantime I am gonna detox by doing a Noro Striped scarf for him. Not gonna use Noro though, because even though the colors are gleaming-gorgeous, he finds it scratchy. He picked out two balls of KP Chroma instead. Which is cheaper as well as being softer, but I don't know how it will wear. Seems like it'll get pilly.
